Introduction to F#

Sun Aug 22 2010 by MarkP

F# is functional programming language for the .NET Framework which was made commercially available in the release of Visual Studio 2010.

Having spent many years developing in C#, I have eventually decided to take the plunge and learn a new language and F# seemed the right choice. I find learning another language helps me become a better programmer and also allows me to improve and enhance my skillset. Many investment banks and software houses in the financial area, are already adopting F# on inhouse projects due to benefits obtained from using functional languages on projects which tend to be in general, mathmatically intense.

This blog defines Nine reasons to use F# and covers the key areas as why a programmer should look at adopting F#. I know Microsoft would like the .NET community to embrace F# and are keen to market it to the developer community but I can see the real benefits of learning F# and hope to be able to utilise it, in the workplace in the not so distance future.
