Security Issues

After a brief hiatus for a few months, I have eventually had a chance to update the site with some minor changes, mainly revolving around the look and feel of the site.

Over the last few months the site has been the target of some internet attacks. These attacks are quite random and seem to looking for exploits in the CMS system. I assume these attacks are generated automatically as they focus on known directories on open source and commercial CMS systems in the market place. An example being directories targeted specific to Joomla relating to administration.

Due to the logging system in place on the site, any attacks that generate a 404 response are logged automatically detailing the referrer and directory.

Luckily due to the bespoke nature of the CMS used to develop this site nothing so far has been compromised but it is imperative that when using a third party CMS that you, the user, are sure the vendor or developer has taken the necessary steps to ensure that the system is secure and that some kind of logging or notification system is in place.
